French-style
binding
Sewn-on-flattened
cords this style of fine binding is similar
to the English-style recessed cord
binding and uses a hollow spine construction.
The cords are flattened and
the spine of the textblock lined extensively
to produce a very smooth
surface. Faux raised bands can be added
to the spine prior to covering or
the spine can stay smooth. This style of
binding is delicate in looks and
feel, with work involved in shaping the
boards to produce an elegant surface
for covering.
